We are going to have a baptism! (Week 38)

Mis Queridos!

I had a wonderful week! Enzo said that he got his answer to his prayers! Enzo had his baptismal interview on saturday and he passed, so we will have his baptism this coming saturday! I remember when I first arrived here and we would go to visit his family he would play computer games and didn't participate in the lessons. Then one day he started to listen to us. He started to read the things we left for him to read and he started to pray. But he would never agree to come to church. We had to put a goal for the baptismal date, but he said he didn't want to be baptized. He kept listening to us, but stopped reading and stopped doing his personal prayers. We decided for a time we weren't going to focus on him. (Like drop him, but we couldn't actually drop him cause we needed to visit his family because some were recent converts). Then one day he started to complete the reading again and say his prayers. We decided that we were going to focus on him again. We decided that we would have lessons separate from his family so he would share with us what he felt and thought so that he could progress and learn. After that, he began to progress rapidly and we put a baptismal date. He said he wasn't so sure but as time went on he said he felt more sure every day that this is the correct decision and that he needed to be baptized. And now, he is going to be baptized!

I feel like maybe one of the reasons that I am still in Lujan is because the Lord is giving me the tender mercy of seeing him get baptized. So I can see the completed process. But really baptism is just the beginning. We have to continue to be faithful until the end which includes the temple. I am excited to continue helping Enzo progress so that he can go to the temple and continue until he makes it to the celestial kingdom.

We are visiting all the recent converts. Tonight we are going to have a family home evening with some of them. Mariano (13 years) is going to do the lesson. I am excited for this night.

Update on my language! I am doing really well and with my companion from Argentina I even had a bit of an Argentina accent. But now with my "yankee" companion I have lost my accent and I have been speaking too much english. Sometimes I will be saying something and an english word will slip out when I am talking to the people. opps. I am going to work on getting better with that again.

I love the General Conference talks! I hope you are all studying them because they give us the guidance that we need! Also, I was studying a bit in the book Jesus the Christ this morning! That book is soooooo awesome! I encourage all to read it!

Thanks! Have a fantastic week!

Como empieza traslado numero 4 en Lujan! (How begins transfer 4 in Lujan) (Week 37)

Dearest Family,

My new companion is Hermana McDougal. She is from West Jordan Utah! She has 11 months in the mission, I really enjoy working with her. We have already seen so much success! It is definately different to work with a "yankee" again. (Here they call all americans yankees! and you pronounce it "shankee" because we are in Buenos Aires Argentina and we have cool accents!!)

I am really enjoying working with my new companion Hermana McDougal. We found a lot of new people this week and one of them has a fecha bautismal ya. His name is Herman. We found him on saturday and invited him to church on sunday. He came to church on sunday and then in the afternoon we had another leccion and put a fecha bautismal (baptismal date). About a year ago his life kinda fell apart. He separeated from his wife and that was really hard for him. He said he was thinking about what to do with is life when just at the exact moment we knocked on his door. I can see a lot of potiental in him and hope that we can help him hacer convenios con el SeƱor.

We are working with Enzo still. He has a fecho bautismal for the 1 of Agosto. He came to church again yesterday and he is doing well. This past week we talked about the palabra de sabidura (word of wisdom) and la ley de castidad (law of chastity). He doen'st have any problem that would keep him from keeping these commandments. yay!

Luclia, recent convert, received her partiarchial blessing yesterday! How wonderful it is to see people progress and how the gospel continually blesses their lives and mine.

We had a leccion with the familia Sabor and they commited to read the Book of Mormon every day. Yay!

Thanks, Have a fantastic week!

Con Mucho Amor,

A week of changes! (Week 36)

Dearest Family,

This week we traveled to the Captial to do the visa papers for my companion. It was crazy we saw the street 9 de Julio which is the HUGE street in the capital and we saw the pink house, it is like the white house in the United States but in Argentina and pink! My companion received her visa in the moment and she is scheduled to fly out for Mexico tomorrow! I am really going to miss her when she goes to Mexico. I really learned alot this transfer thanks to her. I am glad I got the opportunity to work with her and I know that she is going to bless many of the people's lives in Mexico. Wednesday is transfers and I will receive my new companion then. I know that I will be staying in Lujan for this next transfer! So here we go transfer number four here in Lujan! I know the Lord has a purpose and plan for me and He is always going to place me where He needs me. I am excited to find out what that purpose is this transfer.

This week we had a really good leccion with one of our investigators named Enzo. He is the brother of some of the recent converts in our area (Franco, Lucia, and the mom Miriam). Last monday we had a super spiritual lesson with Enzo and Franco. And some fo the questions we asked Enzo he responded with "dispues" (after). So Hermana Masson and I decided that we are going to have a "dispues" lesson with im. On Friday we had a lesson with only Enzo so he would answer our questions and not be timid because his brother was there. He told us that to be baptized he wants to be sure he is making the right decision. Which is what we want as missionaries. We want people to make the decision to be baptized because they know it is right and they have received their answer from the Lord. So we are helping and guiding him so he can receive and recognize his answers. We helped him understand that one thing that is important to do is go to church. We have been inviting Enzo to come to church for months now, be he never came. But this time his reply was different. He said yes to our invitation. Sunday, he was in church. It was really awesome because one of the talks in sacrament meeting was talking about prayer, the Holy Ghost, and receiving answers to our prayers. How perfect! We are planning on setting a baptismal date for Enzo tonight. I know that if we put goals the Lord will help us accomplish them and bless us with the answers we need as we work diligently towards our goals.

Yesterday in sacrament meeting Fernando blessed the sacrament for the first time! Yay! What happiness it brings me to witness the happiness the gospel brings to the lives of the people and to see how much progress they make! It is happiness like no other, I know it comes through sharing the gospel!

I want to wish Jack the Happiest of Birthdays this week! I cant believe he is going to be 14! Wow! I also want to wish Courteney Frank a happy birthday! I hope it is the best birthday that you have ever had, ever! Celebrate with ice cream!

Have a fantastic week,
Con Mucho Amor,
Hermana Burr

Milagro de la Semana--Lucas! (Week 35)

Dearest Familia!

It sounds like all is well back in Utah and you are all enjoying your summer!

Milagro de la semana--Lucas! (Miracle of the Week)
Saturday morning we are going to houses of old investigators. We stopped at a house and they weren't home. We saw a man across the stree-the second time we had seen this man- and we decided that we were going to talk to him. His name is Lucas. We were talking and talking to him. He is super bueno! The first thing he said to us was "you guys are representatives of Jesus Christ, correct?" I believe he is one prepared by the Lord. He told us that he could tell that we had something special, a certain light about us. (That made me super happy that the people can recognize that we are representatives of Christ). We shared a scripture and left him with a pamphlet of the restauración. We also invited him to come to church with us the next morning. He said that he was going to come and we should call him in the morning before church. Sunday morning came around and we called Lucas to verfity his plans to come to church. He said he was going to come and we told him we would wait for him in the doors of the church. Guess what......He came to church! He really liked church. In gospel principles we were talking about keeping the Sabbath day holy. We were talking about how in the Old Testament the Sabbath day was Saturday, but it was changed to Sunday because Jesucristo was resurrected Sunday Morning. Lucas made the comment that the Sabbath day is for each of us to be resurrected spiritually and that is why we need to go to church, etc. He also made the comment that in the church he felt really happy and he felt "lleno" (full) spiritually. I am really excited to visit him this week and help him come unto Christ. I am extremely grateful for the tender mercies of the Lord in my life cada dia. I know that the Lord puts us where we need to be in the exact moment we need to be there.

Wanna know something crazy and awesome? Every time the dogs start to chase us on our bikes my companion starts to sing a hymn and they stop chasing and barking at us. How cool! I thought I would try it and guess what it worked for me too! The power of the Lord is amazing!

We have an investigator who is blind, his name is Abel. He is really religious and we are working with him to help him understand that this is the only true Church of Christ.

We are visiting the recent converts and they are all doing super awesome! We are visiting the menos activos in our area and some are progressing well and others not as much. Anahi came to church again this Sunday!

How was your Fourth of July? Mine was pretty great! I dressed in red, white, and blue on Saturday and Sunday and I had my comp dress in red on Saturday with me!

Here is a birthday shout out to Colby Goodrich! Hope you have a super duper fantastic day! Love ya little buddy :)

Have a fantastic week!

The little tender mercies of the Lord! (Week 34)

Familia!

This week went by so fast I don't even know what to write! But here are the tender mercies of the week:

I had a really happy moment yesterday when Miriam (recent convert of less than a month) gave a talk in sacrament meeting about missionary work. We helped her put a few ideas together but she practically did it all on her own! It was a "proud mother" moment for me.

This week in my studies I found a talk in the liahona de Agosto 2014 that is called The Why of Missionary Work. It helepd me understand more fully my purpose and why I am here. I want to put the things in practice so that I can be a more effective missionary. Go and read it at lds.org! It is soooo good and helps us understand our duty as member missionaries. I love that each of us has the duty of member missionary work. We each promised our Father in Heaven that we would share the gospel when we were baptized. The biggest and easiest way to share the gospel is by living it so others can see your example. Pray to recognize the opportunities to share the gospel and then act accordingly! It really brings such happiness and it brings the spirit into our lives more. There are so many blessings.

The menos activos that we are visiting are the familia Garcia, familia Sabor (sick this week so we couldn't visit), Anahi (she came to church! even in the pouring rain, yay!), and Mariana Arch (we are visiting her with a member). They are all such special children of our Heavenly Father and I have such a love for them.

This week I left from a lesson a bit unexcited. I decided that I needed to open the scriptures to help me feel better. I opened to a random page in the Book of Mormon and read the first verse I saw. It was Alma 38:3, if I remember correct- I have it marked. It was just what I needed to hear. I know the Lord knows us each individually and loves us. He is always aware of us and our situations. He is listening to our prayers and will always answer us and gives us the strength and what we need in the moment that we need it.

Love you all have a fantastic week!
Con mucho amor,
Hermana Burr

Viaje al Templo! (Week 33)

Dearest Familia!

I had a super fantastic week! This week I had divisiones con la Hermana Mickelsen. She helped me to understand that it's ok if I'm not perfect, but that I do my best to do the Lords will. She is a really excellent leader. I know the Lord knows my potential and He is putting those in my path to help me progress so that I can reach my potential that He knows I have.

I really enjoyed the trip to the temple yesterday. It was just what I needed to help me feel the love of my Father in Heaven and my Savior. To help me refocus on the work and have the peace and tranquility that I needed. The temple is such a special place. I am so thankful that we have these little bits of Heaven here on earth. I testify that the temple literally is the house of the Lord.

We got the chance to go to the temple because it will no longer be in our mission. The mission split is going to be happening now. Some of the missionaries from our mission will be going to Buenos Aires south mission. I have been blessed that I will be staying here in Buenos Aires Oeste! The best mission in all the world :)

After the temple trip yesterday we had a family home evening with the Robertson family (mission president) as a mission! One thing that the spirit reminded me of, or helped me understand better yesterday was that no one is perfect. We all have our own difficulties and trials. We shouldn't compare ourselves to others. Especially when in our heads the other people are perfect. Everyone has their different struggles and it is ok if I am not perfect. I am learning and growing and with my Saviors help I can become better each day. It was so fun to learn with them and have time for the activity and games with the mission as well! I got to see a lot of missionaries that I know which was really fun!

We are still working with Jessica. We haven't had many opportunities to talk with her this past week to help her progress mas, pero this week I want to really focus and help her. We found a new investigator named Mariana. She is really great and has a lot of potential. I can see her getting baptized. The only thing is that she works and studies and so the only day we can meet with her is Sundays. So we will have to work really hard to help her progress and put God as a priority in her life. We don't have many progressing investigators at the moment so we are really praying that we will find those elect of the Lord who are ready for the gospel! Keep us in your prayers!

We are visiting all of the recent converts in our area. They are really progressing. They are helping us visit people and they are receiving callings, etc. It is wonderful to see how strong they are in the church. We are also visiting the menos actives in our area.

Have a fantastic week! Remember to serve others and everything will turn out better! Show your gratitude in your actions!

Con mucho amor,
Hermana Burr

Ps sorry for any spanglish that may be in the letter ;)

(Hailey also said the weather is a bit chilly. "I sleep with four blankets, leggings, pj pants, normal socks and fuzzy socks and a sweat shirt. We have our heater. We just got a new heater so now we are a bit warmer! So yes I am staying warm. It just stinks that I always have cold toes, but I was born that way!")

este semana! (Week 32)

Family!

To begin...Feliz dia del Padre! I am so grateful for such a wonderful padre in my life. I can't imagine a better father! Thanks for always being there for me, supporting me in everything and giving me the best gift of all, teaching me the gospel of Jesus Christ, who He is and how I can return to live with our Father in Heaven, Jesus Christ, and our family for the eternities. I am also so grateful for my grandfathers. They are such wonderful examples and support for me. I am so blessed to have such a fantastic family. I would not be where I am today without these fathers in my life.

I also like to think that Father's Day is not only for the fathers here on the earth but it is also a time to remember our Heavenly Father. He is literally our Father and he wants the best for us. That is why he gave us the gospel of Jesus Christ and sent His perfect Son to suffer and atone for us. So that after our time here on earth, if we prove ourselves worthy, we can live with Him for the eternities.

This week in my studies I have been studying about the Atonement. I read the talk Approaching the Throne of God with Confidence. This really helped me and I want to apply it more in my life to help me progress and help others progress. I recommend studying it. It has six suggestions for how we can better ourselves and apply the Atonement of Christ in our daily lives. I also like the talk The Sacrament and the Atonement. This talk really helps one understand what the sacrament is, what it represents, and the value it is to us in our lives. Studying about the Atonement is helping me remember my Savior and what I have promised to do and that I can receive the strength I need to continue on everyday through the Atonement. (the talks can me found on lds.org)

I also found a scripture this morning that I really liked in the bible. Romans 5:1-6. It talks about faith and why we have trials in our lives. That trials are for our good and we need them to progress and have hope and peace in our lives. Read it!!

Have a fantastic week!
