La Carta (The Charter) (Week 78)

Dearest Family,                                                                                                                May 2, 2016

What a wonderful week it has been. We have seen so many miracles and found some really great people this week. The Lord is preparing His children to accept the gospel. It has been a wonderful week. The Lord has blessed us to find those that He is preparing. This week we started out with 0 personas with a fecha bautismal (baptismal date). We ended the week with 5 investigadores that accepted to be baptized. We saw so many miracles. Also, the Lord guided us to contact some really prepared people that don’t live in our area but we were able to pass them to the areas where they pertenece (belong). I am really happy to see the progress that is coming along in the area.

I wanted to share some scriptures that have really helped me in this epoca de me vida (time of my life).
• Luke 1:37-- Is my scripture for the year. I know that God can do all things and that He can help me do all things.
• Alma 38:3, 5, 9, 10, 12, 15-- These scriptures have been a guide to me throughout my mission. They have helped me take strength and courage in the hardest and also the most joyful moments.
• DyC123:17--If we do our part God does His.
This morning I was thinking about all of the things I have learned on my mission. There is a huge list and it is still in progress. I just wanted to share a few of them:
• Sacrifice is not a sacrifice but a blessing.
• I came to this earth to change. Change is a good thing, it lets me learn, progress, and prepares me to Live with God for the eternities.
• My Savior Loves me more than I can imagine. The atonement is real and it works.
• Repentance is a daily process and the Lord really does forgive me when I repent.
• The Plan of Salvation is real and I will Live with my loved ones forever and in the presence of my Father in Heaven and His son Jesucristo.
• How to take courage and talk to everyone and share my testimony with them.
• Faith is demonstrated through actions.
• The why and importance of the sacrament and the church.
• True happiness comes from sharing the gospel.

I know that Jesucristo es mi Salvador (Jesus Christ is my Savior). He is my Redeemer. He came to this earth and suffered for each one of us so that we can live with our Father in Heaven, Jesucrist, and our families forever. We must choose to accept Him by being obedient to the commandments. I know that this is the only true and living church on the Earth. It is the Church of Jesucristo. Where you find his power and authority, the priesthood. Families are forever through the ordinances of the temple. When we pray we are having sacred communication with God, He hears and answers our prayers. He knows best, His will is better for us. He has a marvelous plan for us.  He has a marvelous plan for us.

I love you all!! Thank you, each one of you, for your love and support!
Con muchisimo amor,
Hermana Burr

3 Nefi 5:13
13 Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life.

Alma 38
3 I say unto you, my son, that I have had great joy in thee already, because of thy faithfulness and thy diligence, and thy patience and thy long-suffering among the people of the Zoramites.
5 And now my son, Shiblon, I would that ye should remember, that as much as ye shall put your trust in God even so much ye shall be delivered out of your trials, and your troubles, and your afflictions, and ye shall be lifted up at the last day.
9 And now, my son, I have told you this that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn of me that there is no other way or means whereby man can be saved, only in and through Christ. Behold, he is the life and the light of the world. Behold, he is the word of truth and righteousness.
10 And now, as ye have begun to teach the word even so I would that ye should continue to teach; and I would that ye would be diligent and temperate in all things.
12 Use boldness, but not overbearance; and also see that ye bridle all your passions, that ye may be filled with love; see that ye refrain from idleness.
15 And may the Lord bless your soul, and receive you at the last day into his kingdom, to sit down in peace. Now go, my son, and teach the word unto this people. Be sober. My son, farewell.

DyC123:17
17 Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed.

Semana de Bendiciones!‏ (week blessings) (Week 77)

Dearest Family,

This week was really amazing! I am learning to love more the people I work with and recognize the tender mercies and bendiciones (blessings). The Lord has blessed me tremendously this week in many small ways.
I saw so many blessings this week:

- We did service and cut grass
- We did 2 sets of divisions
- We had a zone activity
- I saw Jimena while in Ituzaingo 4
- We felt the spirit as we visited investigadores, less actives, and members
- I am learning to love the people even more
- I have the best companion!
- WE saw a baptism and it was the most pretty. The confirmation on Sunday was so spiritual as well.
- I saw queridos amigos (dear friends) from Padua
- I can always feel the Love of my Savior
- The Lord puts us where we need to be when we need to be there

Have a fantastic week!

Fasting for a Reference (Week 76)

Family,

This week we had special trainings and interviews. It was so great!

I would like to share an experience. This past week we had fast Sunday. Hermana Cespedes and I decided to fast to thank the Lord for the blessings He has given us and is currently giving us. During the fast a member called us to give us a reference. We felt greatly blessed. I learned that as we are conscious of the Lord and His hand in our lives He in turn blesses us with more than we can even imagine.

This week I studied a bit about repentance and forgiveness. Here is a scripture that helped me raise my testimony. DyC 10:47. I know that God loves us. Because He loves us He sent His only begotten son, our Savior Jesucristo, to this world so that we can repent and change. We receive forgiveness according to our faith in Him. As our love for Him grows stronger we have a desire to repent and live more in harmony with his teachings and to love our neighbors. I know that this is the only true gospel of Cristo. This is the only church where you find His power and authority to act in His name for the salvation for souls.

Have a fantastic week!
Con amor,
Hermana Burr

Hermana Allen, (Hailey’s friend, MTC companion, and serving in the same final area together) had to fly home the end of last week for a family emergency.  Our prayers are with her and her family.  She was an amazing example to Hailey and she loved her dearly.  Hermana Allen was the sister training leader for the zone.  Now that she is gone, President Robertson made a few changes and a member from Hailey’s ward is serving as a mini missionary in her place.  Now Hailey and her companion are sister training leaders for the zone.

Sweater Weather (Week 75)

Dearest Loved Family,

Well the weather is cooling off and today I officially put a sweater on for the first time this year! My companion had her birthday this week! She turned 24! We celebrated her birthday by finding new people to teach, it was a great day!

This week we had divisiones. Hermana Chineppe came to Ituzaingo 2B with me. I really enjoyed the divisiones because I could learn a lot from Hermana Chineppe. I learned a lot about looking for the specks of Gold that we have every day and how to recognize the small blessings that come from the Lord.

This week we found a new Mariana. She is juntada and had a little baby. She accepted a fecha for the 23 of May. We visited her with a member later in the week and she was acting kind of weird that day. Then when we saw her in the street later in the week with her pareja he wasn’t very friendly. We did divisiones with the members Sunday and Hermana Cespedes went to find her for church and she couldn’t come. We know that there are problems with her pareja and we think he is impeding her from progressing so we want to try and get to know him this week and see if we can help them together.

We received a referral from the bishop named Noelia. She is the daughter of a less active and she just had a baby. She wants to bless her baby. She is not a member and she wants to go to church and accepted to listen to the charlas. WE visited her this week. We are going to teach her in the house of a member this week.

We are working with an inactive member named Luci. She is 22. Her parents just reactivated. When I was with Hermana Chineppe we were able to understand her doubts and she committed to pray to know if the Book of Mormon is true. She was really sincere in her commitment. The next time we passed by she had a new light in her eyes! Yesterday when we visited her she committed to come to church this coming Sunday. We asked her why she was going to come and she said because she feels the need to go. (Which is amazing because before she said she doesn’t like going to church cause she doesn’t feel anything and there is no point to go and sit there just to fill a seat). I know that I can trust in the Lords promise that when one asks with sincere intent that He answers.

Oh I almost forgot, on Saturday we moved! What a blessing, our new pench is spacious, has a spiritual environment, and is super safe! We love it so so so mucho! Moving reminded me of all the times that our family moved, it made me smile!

Con amor,
Hermana Burr

>He Knows Me Better< (Week 74)

Family,

How are you all? I am so happy to be with my companion and to be here in Ituzaingo 2! I have learned a lot this week and have felt the love of the Lord so strongly in my life.

I will admit, last week I was not too enthused about going to Ituzaingo. But I learned a grand lesson this week about how the Lord knows me and where I need to be. He knows me better than I know myself. When we got to our area the first day we were looking in the carpeta de area and we saw a registro of names that I recognized from Padua where I started my mission. I immediately felt the Love of my Savior and knew that being here in this area is a huge blessing for me. We are teaching an investigador that I had taught when I started my mission, Luis. His wife, Andrea, is a member. They are not legally married but want to be married and Luis has made the decision to be baptized. Luis had been waiting for his divorce to go through for about two years now. The papers went though and they are just waiting on a background check from his work and they can sacar un turno and be married. I am praying that this process can finish before I go home in May. But if not it is a blessing just to be teaching them again.

This week I finished reading the Book of Mormon out loud. I feel so blessed that the Lord helped me complete my goal of finishing it before the conference. After I finished reading I knelt down to ask my Father in Heaven once again if the Book of Mormon is true. He always answers and when we do this as members it strengthens our testimony. While I was on my knees I had the impression that I would get my answer while listening to general conference. While I was watching conference I received my reaffirming answer that the Book of Mormon is true. My favorite talks from conference were from Pres. Uchtdorf and Elder Holland.

Have a fantastic week!

A donde me mandes iré :) (To send me where I go)‏ (Week 73)

Family,

This week president called and told me that I was going to finish my mission in Parque Leloir A. The next day I went to Hurling to pack my bags and took them to Parque. That same day he called again and said that my companion, Hermana Cespedes and I were both going to leave the area and we are going to open an area together! We are going to the area Ituzaingo 2B! Hermana Cespedes is from Bolivia and finishes her mission one transfer after I do.

I had a wonderful Easter! I love this time cause we remember Christ. I love these scriptures: Mosiah 3:7-12. We saw so many Easter miracles some of which include but are not limited to the following.

Rodrigo- we had a great lesson about the pascua (Easter) yesterday. He has doubts about tithing but after the lesson he committed to pray to know if he needs to pay his tithing. I know he will receive his answer.

David Garcia- he says he doesn't want to be pressured. He told us that he did not pray to know if the Book of Mormon is true. Yesterday we shared some scriptures about Cristo for Easter. We asked him to think of 3 things that he is going to do this week to accept Cristo and show Him thanks. He said that every day he is going to pray to know if the Book of Mormon is true. I know that he felt the spirit and that it was the spirit that told him what he needs to do.

Yesterday Mercedes, an inactive member told us that she wants her 10 year old daughter to be baptized. This is what she and her family need to reactivate and stay strong in the church.
I know that the Lord has his timing and even though i don't understand it sometimes He knows what is better for each one of us.

Luis- This week in Parque there was a lot of things happening with the baptism of Luis. We talked to him and he agreed with us that it would be best to postpone his baptism cause his parents didn't want him to get baptized and there wasn't peace in their home. He is going to stay strong and be patient.

Have a fantastic week!

Surprises, a Work Trip, and First Day of Fall! (Week 72)

Dearest Family,

Wow what a crazy week! Wednesday morning I got a phone call from President Robertson and he told me that he needed me to pack a suit case for a week. There are two hermanas that have hurt knees and can’t work so president put me in one of their spots so that I can work with her companion. They have progressing investigadores and needed to have missionaries working. So now I am in Parque Leoir A! I am working with Hermana Mattinson.

They have bikes here and that made me so so so happy! But guess what, Friday morning when we woke up someone had robbed our bikes during the night! What a surprise. The pench here is a house with a tall fence around it. They leave the bikes outside but someone had busted open the gate and robbed the bikes during the night. We didn’t hear anything because there was a big rain storm. But we were protected by the hand of the Lord and they didn’t try to enter into the house. So all is well! We just have to walk and take the colectivo (bus) for a few days till we can get new bikes.

Something that strengthened my faith this week is when we were going home. We needed to take the colectivo really quickly so that we could get home on time. Hermana Mattinson and I said a prayer that a colectivo would pass by really soon so that we could get home on time and be obedient with the schedule. Before we even finished the prayer a colectivo stopped right in front of us and we were able to get home on time. We then thanked our Father in Heaven in prayer for answering our prayer.  I know the Lord is conscious of us and our needs and that He hears and answers our prayer when we pray in faith.

We have been working with Luis. He is a progressing investigador. He had his baptisimal interview on Saturday and passed. He had a few doubts because his family doesn’t like the idea of him being baptized, but he is going to continue with his decision, He has a lot of faith and is acting on what he knows is right.  But I know that the Lord will provide for him as he obeys the commandments. This week we are going to fortalecerle (strengthen) and help him stay strong.

This week was stake conference. It was great cause I got to see some people from my old area, Ituzaingo 4. The scripture that really stood out to me is DyC 88:119. This is the key to have a consecrated life.

Thanks for all you do! Have a fantastic week!

Opportunities to Serve! (Week 71)

Dearest Family,

This week we had the opportunity to do service! Yay! Our ward mission leader recently moved. They have about 100 yards out back of their house and it is full of Bamboo. So we were helping to take it out. We didn’t get it all out but it was so wonderful to finally have the opportunity for a service project! We don’t get that opportunity very often, so it was such a bit blessing. Then later that day we passed by the church and there was one sister there to clean the church all by herself, so we helped her clean! Another opportunity to do service, two big miracles in one day!

Yesterday was ward conference. One of the miracles I saw this week is that yesterday we had a full chapel for sacrament meeting. They had to bring seats into the chapel for people to sit on cause there wasn’t enough seats. Also, an inactive member came to church yesterday for the first time. His name is Enzo.  We are going to visit him and his family. Not all of them are members so we hope we will be able to teach them.

We are in the search for new people to teach. This week our beloved Cristina dropped us and we couldn’t find any of our other investigadors either. I know the Lord hastens his work in his time and as we look for ways to improve and are guided by the spirit He will lead us to those who are searching for the truth.

Have a fantastic week!

Edified for the Spirit :) (Week 70)

Dearest Family,

It is hard for me to believe that time flies by so fast that Ode Gubler is already back with you all. (Sister Gubler returned this week from serving a mission in Estonia. This is Hailey’s cousin). This week I completed 16 months in the mission and I really have no idea where the time has gone. I am so thankful for these 16 months of growing and learning. I have seen so many miracles and changes in the lives of our Heavenly Fathers children and in my own life as well.

One of the experiences I want to share this week is about the power of the Restoration. This week in companionship study we decided to do a practice with the other Hermanas in our pench. As my companion and I were teaching them the restoration I had the opportunity to recite the first vision. As the words came out of my mouth the Spirit began to fill the room and penetrate my heart so strongly. The other Hermanas as well were touched.  I know that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God and that through him the True Church of Christ was restored to the earth. The Holy Ghost testifies of truth to our hearts and souls. As we search for the guidance of the spirit we are edified and strengthened to what The Lord has called us to do.

Yesterday we visited an inactive member, Hna. Sosa. She has health problems and the señor that lives above her, Osmar, is always helping her with everything. Every time we visit this Hermana we invite him to participate, but always puts an excuse. Yesterday we invited him and he said yes. He participated in part of the lesson and then left in the middle to cook. At the end of the lesson, we invited him to come and participate for the closing prayer. He said yes. We asked him if there was something the he wanted us to include in the prayer and he told us. We prayed for what he said. After the prayer he stood up real quick and as he left the room he said "you made me cry." I know that the spirit touched his heart and that is a seed for him to be able to accept to listen again and come to receive the restored gospel.

This week I was meditizando 2 Nefi 25:23. I am trying to do my part diligently so that the Lord can do His part. This is also something that has helped to keep me going and be positive. The Lord always fulfills His promises and helps us to do the impossible.

Have a Fantastic Week!

Hermana Burr

Full of the Spirit :) (Week 69)

Mi querida familia,

This week was one so full of the spirit! We had the privilege of going to a meeting with Elder Bednar. He came to Buenos Aires and did a meeting for all of the missionaries in the region of South America South. The four missions of BA attended in person. It really was incredible. I think what I learned the most is how to learn from the spirit. I have been applying it in my personal study and I have been able to learn so much more and have more meaningful studies. Also, something that really touched me is the story of faith of the Israelites. When they were taking the Arc of the Covenant they needed to cross the River Jordan. The Lord promised them that they would pass by on dry ground. As they waited on the bank the waters did not part. But when they started to cross and had their feet wet, that is when the waters parted and they crossed on dry ground. Also, that the Lord hastens His work in His timing. We may not be seeing big fruits coming from our Labors, but the Lord is blessing us in the small ways and in His time we will hasten His work and we will see the Big fruits.

This week we were able to apply and we helped a less active we are working with learn from the spirit. As we are making decisions in the work and me for my life I know that as we trust in the Lord and get our feet wet, he will bless and guide us. I love you all. Search diligently for the spirit and He will guide you in all you do, say, and think. We are so blessed as members of the Lord´s church to have the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost.

Love you all! Have a Fantastic Week!

Hurlingham is my place (Week 68)

Dearest Family,

Elder Bednar is coming to visit this coming week and we are really excited! We have been studying talks from him about the faith to prepare us for his visit. Something I am going to share with you all is that I learned that the key to conversion is unwearied diligence and obedience, and repentance when we make mistakes.

This week I have been learning more about the will of the Lord. Our progressing investigador that had her baptismal date for this coming Saturday, Cristina Agüero, told us yesterday that she is not going to be baptized on Saturday. She said that she doesn’t feel sure of her decision. She doesn’t want to be baptized just to be baptized. And that is what we want as well. The truth is that when she said that I felt sad but also at peace, because I could tell that she is not truly converted yet. We have been trying to help her have her own personal experience with the Atonement and repentance, because we understand that is how one becomes converted. She has been praying to know if the book of Mormon is true but says she is not sure she has received her answer. We have explained multiple times how the spirit works with us. I know that she will be baptized in the Lords time. Now we are going to work with her and help her to be able to truly repent and be converted and a faithful member of the church.

Have a Fantastic Week!

The first week with Hermana Barrera (Week 67)

Dear Family,
I want to start sharing what my companion told me this morning. It was so cute! Keep in mind this is her first
P-day. We were walking here to the cyber to write our families. We only walked about 10 blocks in total and it is hot and humid. On the way she said "I feel like we are walking in the desert to the Promised Land!" how cute is she. This made me think of what a privilege it really is to be able to write and communicate with you all. I am so thankful for the technology that we had today to be able to communicate so quickly with family and friends from all over the world.

This week we were visiting Cristina Aguero our progressing investigador. She was still a bit unsure about her baptism. But in our lesson this week she started asking us questions about how her baptism was going to be and was happy and excited about things. We showed her the baptisimal font yesterday and that also helped her. Yay!

We are working with a less active member (his wife is active). And this week in our lesson I realized how amazing it is that Lord blesses us with the capacity to care about and love the people we work with. As well as how much they really appreciate and need the help of the missionaries. I am so grateful that the spirit guides us as missionaries so that the spirit can teach and testify.  I know without a doubt that this is the Work of the Lord. He is guiding me in every step of the way so that His work can be accomplished. As we do as He commands He guides us through the spirit so that He can meet the needs of His children. The spirit is absolutely necessary in this work.

Love you all! Have a Fantastic Week!

Cambios--Entrenando (Changes-Training) (Week 66)

Dearest Family,

I couldn’t write on Monday cause it was carnival and all of the cybers were closed. So we have permission to write today!

Transfers were this week. My companion Hermana Alvarez went home to Columbia. Now I am training Hermana Barrera! She is from Neuquen Argentina! She is really great and I am so excited for this transfer with her, I am so excited to learn and grow with her. We are working in the area Hurlinham B, where I was last transfer.

Cristina our progressing investigador is doing well. This week she came a little earlier to church. We are working on getting her to come for more than sacrament meeting cause she has only been coming for that hour. She says that she is still waiting for her answer. We are praying for her and trying to help her recognize her answer. I have a lot of faith that she will be baptized on the 27 of Febrero. I can just feel that she is going to reach her goal, because she has real intent and desires. It is really helping that we are taking members to the lessons.

I have been learning a lot about gratitude. It truly is the key to happiness. As I have been studying I have found that the scriptures are full of gratitude and thanks to the Lord. That is something I have not realized before. Here is one of my favorite scriptures about gratitude: DyC 59:7-8. To give thanks to the Lord is a commandment. We can show our gratitude through righteousness and having a broken heart and a contrite spirit.

Well I love you all! Thanks for all of your love, support, and prayers. It is felt. Have a fantastic week!

Con amor, Hermana Burr

D&C 59:7-8
7 Thou shalt thank the Lord thy God in all things.
8 Thou shalt offer a sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in righteousness, even that of a broken heart and a contrite spirit.

The twist of my week (Week 65)

Dearest Family,

I had a great week! I have seen a lot of miracles. One of the biggest miracles being that I had my interview with President Robertson and that after on Friday, with help from my mother, 3 college applications were turned in. I saw the hand of the Lord in every little aspect and detail of my life this past week.

Cristina Agüero is progressing well to reach her baptismal date of the 27 of February. She came to sacrament meeting again this week. She enjoys talking to the members and enjoys when they come to the lessons with us, so that is really great.  She is completing her compromisos and the other day she asked us to write down all of the scriptures we have left her in a list so that she can go back through and study them again to learn more. This week one of the tender mercies we experienced with her is when we taught her how to look for certain verses in the scriptures. She said she had always wanted to learn how to find things in the Bible and it was a little miracle to be able to participate in the process of her learning how to find and identify scriptures in the Book of Mormón and the Bible.

I want to wish the happiest of 18th birthdays to the best sister in the world Ashley Burr! I hope you enjoy it with birthday pie and ice cream!

Well I love you all so very mucho! Have a fantastic week!

Con Amor,
Hermana Burr

gira misional (Week 64)

Hola my dear family,

I had a great week! This week we watched a satellite transmission that was for all the missionaries in the world it was great! Then the next day we had the gira misional. Elder Svec and his wife came to talk to us.

This week we visited Cristina our progressing investigador. Her fecha is for the 27 de Febrero. We taught her about obedience and the Ten Commandments. We visited her with a recent convert and we taught her about the plan of salvation focusing on repentance and keeping the word of wisdom. She committed to do her very best to live the word of wisdom. The only problem she has is drinking coffee. She said it would be hard but worth it so that she can return to live with God and her family forever. We were going to go to church together with her yesterday, but her plans got changed. Originally she planned to travel with her son to see a house in the afternoon so she could go to church. Sunday morning her son told her that they had to travel in the morning so she couldn’t come to church, but she has plans to go this coming Sunday.

Yesterday we had a wonderful surprise. During gospel principles class Esteban (investigador) and Celeste (menos activo) showed up to church. We thought he had to work on Sunday, so we weren’t expecting him in church. We had visited Celeste the night before and had a really good lesson with her. Esteban was fixing a bike and didn’t participate in the lesson. Well Sunday morning he woke up and told Celeste they were going to go to church. What a miracle! They have made the decision to be married. They are in the process of sacando un turno.

Have a fantastic week!

Humility and Gratitude (Week 63)

My Most Dear Family,

I write to you in humility and gratitude today. Yesterday at Church President and Sister Robertson attended our ward. After church President told me what had happened. It was a bit rough. I had to take some time to read in the Book of Mormon, pray, and write a little bit. The thing that has helped me the most so far is the gratitude. Thanking my Father in Heaven that He blessed me with such a wonderful Grandfather who was an example, friend, and support to me. Grandpa was the best example of charity, love, and enduring faithfully to the end.  I am so very grateful for the plan of salvation and the power of the priesthood that binds our family together. Thanks to the gospel I can have peace of conscious even though this was hard news for me. I am grateful to have my Savior that heals my wounds and gives me the strength to carry on and continue in his service. I know grandpa is in a better place and that I have one more angel watching over me.

Here are a few of the things that have helped me.
• 2 Nefi 9:18
• "Express gratitude for your challenges and adversities and what you can learn from them. This will open the door for the Lord to bless and help you."
• 2 Nefi 9:52
• Alma 7:11-13
• "The enabling power of the atonement strengthens us to do and be good and to serve beyond our own individual desire and natural capacity."- David A. Bednar
• "Grace-Divine means of help or strength given through the bounteous mercy and love of Jesus Christ."-The Bible Dictionary
I had a big paragraph written about the miracle week we have had and I just accidentally deleted it, so I will sum it up in a few sentences. We have seen so many miracles this week. We have been able to teach a lot more lessons this week. The new investigadores we found are really great and interested. Two of them have a baptism date. Norma and Cristina. We found Cristina on Saturday and she didn't think she was going to be able to come to church. But the Lord blessed us with a miracle and she showed up to church all on her own!
Well I love you all so so so very much and wish you a great week. Find Joy in all of the tender mercies of the Lord and show him Gratitude for all you have. This is what has truly blessed me this transfer and weekend.
Love you

Gratitude-What a Tender Miracle it is in our Lives (Week 62)

Dearest Family,

I have been focusing on gratitude this week. Every time I felt a little down I began to think of all of my blessings and I couldn’t help but to be happy. I have noted a change in my attitude, positivity, and faith. Even my companion noted a difference.

I love this quote: "Thankfulness is measured by words. Gratitude is measured by the nature of our actions." - David O. McKay

In Church we were talking a bit about faith. I love faith! We live in this world by faith. I know this is in Spanish but I wanted to share it anyway:

“en esta época, como en todas las épocas pasadas y en todas las que vendrán, la necesidad más grande que existe en el mundo es el tener una fe activa y sincera en las enseñanzas básicas de Jesús de Nazaret, el Hijo viviente del Dios viviente. El hecho de que muchos rechacen sus enseñanzas da más motive aún a los verdaderos creyentes en el evangelio de Jesucristo para proclamar sus verdades y demostrar con el ejemplo la fortaleza y la paz de una vida digna y bondadosa..."

I love this because it explains that in all times the biggest need that exists is to have an active and sincere faith in the basic teachings of Jesucristo.

My favorite day this week was Saturday. All of our appointments fell through, but in this time the Lord guided us to find an inactive member.  She joined the church in Paraguay 20 years ago. when she moved here she never found the church and she has been in Argentina for about 18 years. We are excited to help Gladis on her return path to the gospel. She was so happy to have talked with us and is excited that we are here to help her return.

Also, this day we talked to Flavia. She is an investigador that Hermana Santos, Hermana Laurie, and I found when I was here for divisions as HLE Viajante. Hermana Alvarez and I had not been able to visit her since we have been here; all of our appointments fell through. It was a really special moment for me when she walked out of her house to open the gate. I felt like I was watching my long lost friend approach me. I have so much love for this investigador. It made me even happier when She remembered who I was and was happy to see me. She has so much potential and I know that she will be baptized with time. I say with time because she told us to come back after summer vacation because she is going to travel.  This was a really tender moment for me and I am so excited to help Flavia on the path to conversion.

That night we were talking to a less active. She is living with her boyfriend that is an investigator. The Hermanas were working with him when we showed up. we are working with them now and we talked to her and she said that this Tuesday morning they are going to sacar un turno to be married. yay!

Have a Fantastic Week!

The first week in Hurlingham B! (Week 61)

Family,

What a wild week I have had! It has been a big adjustment to have an area again but I have enjoyed teaching people that I will be able to visit again. The first lesson we were in I felt the spirit so strongly when we were verifying her compromiso (commitment) and I shared my testimony of the Book of Mormon with her. In that lesson we taught her the plan de salvacion and she accepted to talk to her husband about marriage!

My area is Hurlingham B. In the zone of Caseros, the city! My companion is Hermana Alvarez. She is 23 years old and is from Columbia! This is her last Transfer! The funniest part is that everyone tells us we look like twins :) my companion and I arrived in a whitewash-meaning we came to this new area together at the same time.

Here are a few scriptures that marked my week:
• Mosíah 23:21-22 I am pretty sure I have read this scripture almost every day this week! I have learned a lot from it :)
• Luke 1:37 This is my Scripture for the Year! I know it is the truth! (For with God nothing shall be impossible.)
• 2 Corinthians 12:9 is the scripture I am going to meditizar this week, a big thanks to Jenna for sharing it with me!

Here is my favorite miracle of the week:
It was Friday the 1 de Enero (January) and we had been having a good day. We found an eligido (chosen one) in the morning and found some less actives that we had a lesson with.  And we had one other lesson. The rest of the day we were talking to everyone and no one wanted to listen to us. At 8:00 in the night we decided that we were going to visit a woman that the hermanas that used to be in this area had contacted, Eliana. We knocked on her door and she accepted us. She is 23 and lives solo with her two daughters Alma (3) and Luz (1.5); she separated from her novio who is now in jail. We taught her the restoration and it was a lesson filled with the spirit. She accepted to be baptized on the 30 of January. We felt strongly that she would be able to arrive for this date. We made plans to go to church together.  The sad part is that on Sunday we passed by and she didn’t answer, we are not sure what happened. Cause we double checked our plans with her Saturday night. We had an appointment today to visit her.

Have a Fantastic week!

The week of Christmas :) (Week 60)

Dearest Family!

The highlights of my week:
• Temple trip
• Talking to my family by Skype on Christmas day
• Helping with the mission Christmas party
• Feeling the happiness of the season
I had a great week. I really enjoyed helping everyone in the offices prepare for the temple trip, transfers, and with whatever they needed help with. I have learned that I really like helping with the "behind the scenes" work and helping everything happen so the other missionaries have a success and can enjoy the spirit.

I am excited to be going out to work again. It will definitely be a big adjustment for me. I have a feeling it might be like being a refuerzo all over again, but I am excited to be able to focus on investigadores once more. I have learned a lot this transfer. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Hermana Theobald, Elder Slater, Elder Morrill, Elder Christensen, Elder Furtado, la Familia Johnson, la Familia McCllean, Elder Rojas & Elder Millett. They are all outstanding missionaries and I have learned from each one of them about being a consecrated missionary. I am excited to go and apply what I have learned.

I also really enjoyed the temple trip. I was able to receive revelation for what the Lord wants of/for me and what I need to improve on. I really love all of the blessings we receive from going to the temple.

Transfers are tomorrow! This transfer just went by way to fast! I am now going to be companions with Hermana Alverez from Columbia! We are going to be the hermana training leaders for the zone and we are both going to arrive in the area at the same time. So we are arriving in a whitewash! Yay! One of the reasons I am excited for this area we are going to is this past transfer I did divisions in this area and we found a woman who is really awesome. I am excited to get the opportunity to teach her again and help her come to understand and live the gospel!

Have a fantastic week!

T'was the week of Christmas :) (Week 59)

Dearest family,

I hope you are all enjoying this week of Christmas and are sharing the love of our Lord and Savior with everyone you come in contact with!

As I reflect on my year I feel so very, very blessed. My Father in Heaven has given me the very best gift I could have ever received, and that is to be in His service and witness all of the miracles He does in the lives of His children.

I have been thinking so much about my Savior and what He means to me. Every time I think about Him I can feel the spirit and my testimory grows that he really is my Savior and He is the most important person in my life. Without my Savior I would not be here today. None of us would. We must show our gratitude daily for him and his sacrifice by living righteously, following his commandments, and repenting and accepting his sacrifice when we make mistakes. If I could sum up who the Savior is for me in one phrase it would be this...Christ is my Savior, Redeemer, Brother, Example, and Best Friend.

I invite you all to reflect on who Christ is for you.

This week we did divisions in Caseros, Hurlingham, and Parpue Leloir. Here is just a little bit of what I have felt and learned this week... I love the assignment I have been given. I have learned so so much and I am continuing to learn so so much. I have seen so many miracles in my life and in the lives of the other missionaries and their investigators. Yesterday I learned an important lesson. The Lord is always helping us. After we have done all we can do He comes in and does the rest. He makes miracles happen. Although it may be hard for me somtimes to see the good I am doing, He is always going to make miracles out of my righteous efforts.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Con mucho amor,
Hermana Burr

A Savior is Born (Week 58)

Dearest Family,

I hope you are all enjoying this Christmas season and sharing the joy and the real reason for the season with everyone you come in contact with!

I love the video the Church has produced for Christmas this year. I think in English it would be called something like this..A Savior is Born. Also, I love the video that should be called something like this...Imagine the world without a Savior. My invitation to all is to watch and share these videos :)

This week while on divisions with Hermana Kent we had a really amazing experience teaching the Restoration that I would like to share with you. We were working in a part of their area where they don't usually spend much time. The Hermana had the impression that we should go and visit someone they had only taught once and then their next appointment had fallen through. So we went to visit her. We were teaching her the restoration and we got to the part where we were verifying after the death of Christ, the prophet, and the apostles. We said duirng that time the people were unhappy, what would Heavenly Father need to give them so they could be happy again. She told us that they would need a prophet to guide them. I was really happy in this moment because that is the first time I have been teaching the restoration in this simple direct way and the investigator understood after explaining only once that there was a need for a prophet. We then continued and after the first vision we asked her how she felt and she said peace. We connected this to baptism and invited her to be baptized on the 16 of January. She said she would prepare for that day! We explained how the Book of Mormon is what is going to help her prepare for her baptism and gain her own testimony and what we shared is true and she committed to read and pray about the Book of Mormon.

This transfer I have seen such a change in myself and I can see myself becoming an effective capable instrument in the hands of the Lord. I know the training's we are doing this transfer about how to teach simple, direct, and bold are changing me and the mission. I have heard and seen so many miracles from other missionaries as well. Thank you for helpimg me be more worthy of the revelation of God for this mission and for applying what the Lord wants.

Also, we are now starting the training's on how to teach the plan of salvation so that should be fun! Have a fantastic week!

Con mucho amor,
Hermana Burr
