Surprises, a Work Trip, and First Day of Fall! (Week 72)

Dearest Family,

Wow what a crazy week! Wednesday morning I got a phone call from President Robertson and he told me that he needed me to pack a suit case for a week. There are two hermanas that have hurt knees and can’t work so president put me in one of their spots so that I can work with her companion. They have progressing investigadores and needed to have missionaries working. So now I am in Parque Leoir A! I am working with Hermana Mattinson.

They have bikes here and that made me so so so happy! But guess what, Friday morning when we woke up someone had robbed our bikes during the night! What a surprise. The pench here is a house with a tall fence around it. They leave the bikes outside but someone had busted open the gate and robbed the bikes during the night. We didn’t hear anything because there was a big rain storm. But we were protected by the hand of the Lord and they didn’t try to enter into the house. So all is well! We just have to walk and take the colectivo (bus) for a few days till we can get new bikes.

Something that strengthened my faith this week is when we were going home. We needed to take the colectivo really quickly so that we could get home on time. Hermana Mattinson and I said a prayer that a colectivo would pass by really soon so that we could get home on time and be obedient with the schedule. Before we even finished the prayer a colectivo stopped right in front of us and we were able to get home on time. We then thanked our Father in Heaven in prayer for answering our prayer.  I know the Lord is conscious of us and our needs and that He hears and answers our prayer when we pray in faith.

We have been working with Luis. He is a progressing investigador. He had his baptisimal interview on Saturday and passed. He had a few doubts because his family doesn’t like the idea of him being baptized, but he is going to continue with his decision, He has a lot of faith and is acting on what he knows is right.  But I know that the Lord will provide for him as he obeys the commandments. This week we are going to fortalecerle (strengthen) and help him stay strong.

This week was stake conference. It was great cause I got to see some people from my old area, Ituzaingo 4. The scripture that really stood out to me is DyC 88:119. This is the key to have a consecrated life.

Thanks for all you do! Have a fantastic week!

Opportunities to Serve! (Week 71)

Dearest Family,

This week we had the opportunity to do service! Yay! Our ward mission leader recently moved. They have about 100 yards out back of their house and it is full of Bamboo. So we were helping to take it out. We didn’t get it all out but it was so wonderful to finally have the opportunity for a service project! We don’t get that opportunity very often, so it was such a bit blessing. Then later that day we passed by the church and there was one sister there to clean the church all by herself, so we helped her clean! Another opportunity to do service, two big miracles in one day!

Yesterday was ward conference. One of the miracles I saw this week is that yesterday we had a full chapel for sacrament meeting. They had to bring seats into the chapel for people to sit on cause there wasn’t enough seats. Also, an inactive member came to church yesterday for the first time. His name is Enzo.  We are going to visit him and his family. Not all of them are members so we hope we will be able to teach them.

We are in the search for new people to teach. This week our beloved Cristina dropped us and we couldn’t find any of our other investigadors either. I know the Lord hastens his work in his time and as we look for ways to improve and are guided by the spirit He will lead us to those who are searching for the truth.

Have a fantastic week!

Edified for the Spirit :) (Week 70)

Dearest Family,

It is hard for me to believe that time flies by so fast that Ode Gubler is already back with you all. (Sister Gubler returned this week from serving a mission in Estonia. This is Hailey’s cousin). This week I completed 16 months in the mission and I really have no idea where the time has gone. I am so thankful for these 16 months of growing and learning. I have seen so many miracles and changes in the lives of our Heavenly Fathers children and in my own life as well.

One of the experiences I want to share this week is about the power of the Restoration. This week in companionship study we decided to do a practice with the other Hermanas in our pench. As my companion and I were teaching them the restoration I had the opportunity to recite the first vision. As the words came out of my mouth the Spirit began to fill the room and penetrate my heart so strongly. The other Hermanas as well were touched.  I know that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God and that through him the True Church of Christ was restored to the earth. The Holy Ghost testifies of truth to our hearts and souls. As we search for the guidance of the spirit we are edified and strengthened to what The Lord has called us to do.

Yesterday we visited an inactive member, Hna. Sosa. She has health problems and the señor that lives above her, Osmar, is always helping her with everything. Every time we visit this Hermana we invite him to participate, but always puts an excuse. Yesterday we invited him and he said yes. He participated in part of the lesson and then left in the middle to cook. At the end of the lesson, we invited him to come and participate for the closing prayer. He said yes. We asked him if there was something the he wanted us to include in the prayer and he told us. We prayed for what he said. After the prayer he stood up real quick and as he left the room he said "you made me cry." I know that the spirit touched his heart and that is a seed for him to be able to accept to listen again and come to receive the restored gospel.

This week I was meditizando 2 Nefi 25:23. I am trying to do my part diligently so that the Lord can do His part. This is also something that has helped to keep me going and be positive. The Lord always fulfills His promises and helps us to do the impossible.

Have a Fantastic Week!

Full of the Spirit :) (Week 69)

Mi querida familia,

This week was one so full of the spirit! We had the privilege of going to a meeting with Elder Bednar. He came to Buenos Aires and did a meeting for all of the missionaries in the region of South America South. The four missions of BA attended in person. It really was incredible. I think what I learned the most is how to learn from the spirit. I have been applying it in my personal study and I have been able to learn so much more and have more meaningful studies. Also, something that really touched me is the story of faith of the Israelites. When they were taking the Arc of the Covenant they needed to cross the River Jordan. The Lord promised them that they would pass by on dry ground. As they waited on the bank the waters did not part. But when they started to cross and had their feet wet, that is when the waters parted and they crossed on dry ground. Also, that the Lord hastens His work in His timing. We may not be seeing big fruits coming from our Labors, but the Lord is blessing us in the small ways and in His time we will hasten His work and we will see the Big fruits.

This week we were able to apply and we helped a less active we are working with learn from the spirit. As we are making decisions in the work and me for my life I know that as we trust in the Lord and get our feet wet, he will bless and guide us. I love you all. Search diligently for the spirit and He will guide you in all you do, say, and think. We are so blessed as members of the Lord´s church to have the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost.

Love you all! Have a Fantastic Week!

Hurlingham is my place (Week 68)

Dearest Family,

Elder Bednar is coming to visit this coming week and we are really excited! We have been studying talks from him about the faith to prepare us for his visit. Something I am going to share with you all is that I learned that the key to conversion is unwearied diligence and obedience, and repentance when we make mistakes.

This week I have been learning more about the will of the Lord. Our progressing investigador that had her baptismal date for this coming Saturday, Cristina Agüero, told us yesterday that she is not going to be baptized on Saturday. She said that she doesn’t feel sure of her decision. She doesn’t want to be baptized just to be baptized. And that is what we want as well. The truth is that when she said that I felt sad but also at peace, because I could tell that she is not truly converted yet. We have been trying to help her have her own personal experience with the Atonement and repentance, because we understand that is how one becomes converted. She has been praying to know if the book of Mormon is true but says she is not sure she has received her answer. We have explained multiple times how the spirit works with us. I know that she will be baptized in the Lords time. Now we are going to work with her and help her to be able to truly repent and be converted and a faithful member of the church.

Have a Fantastic Week!

Hermana Burr

The first week with Hermana Barrera (Week 67)

Dear Family,
I want to start sharing what my companion told me this morning. It was so cute! Keep in mind this is her first
P-day. We were walking here to the cyber to write our families. We only walked about 10 blocks in total and it is hot and humid. On the way she said "I feel like we are walking in the desert to the Promised Land!" how cute is she. This made me think of what a privilege it really is to be able to write and communicate with you all. I am so thankful for the technology that we had today to be able to communicate so quickly with family and friends from all over the world.

This week we were visiting Cristina Aguero our progressing investigador. She was still a bit unsure about her baptism. But in our lesson this week she started asking us questions about how her baptism was going to be and was happy and excited about things. We showed her the baptisimal font yesterday and that also helped her. Yay!

We are working with a less active member (his wife is active). And this week in our lesson I realized how amazing it is that Lord blesses us with the capacity to care about and love the people we work with. As well as how much they really appreciate and need the help of the missionaries. I am so grateful that the spirit guides us as missionaries so that the spirit can teach and testify.  I know without a doubt that this is the Work of the Lord. He is guiding me in every step of the way so that His work can be accomplished. As we do as He commands He guides us through the spirit so that He can meet the needs of His children. The spirit is absolutely necessary in this work.

Love you all! Have a Fantastic Week!

Cambios--Entrenando (Changes-Training) (Week 66)

Dearest Family,

I couldn’t write on Monday cause it was carnival and all of the cybers were closed. So we have permission to write today!

Transfers were this week. My companion Hermana Alvarez went home to Columbia. Now I am training Hermana Barrera! She is from Neuquen Argentina! She is really great and I am so excited for this transfer with her, I am so excited to learn and grow with her. We are working in the area Hurlinham B, where I was last transfer.

Cristina our progressing investigador is doing well. This week she came a little earlier to church. We are working on getting her to come for more than sacrament meeting cause she has only been coming for that hour. She says that she is still waiting for her answer. We are praying for her and trying to help her recognize her answer. I have a lot of faith that she will be baptized on the 27 of Febrero. I can just feel that she is going to reach her goal, because she has real intent and desires. It is really helping that we are taking members to the lessons.

I have been learning a lot about gratitude. It truly is the key to happiness. As I have been studying I have found that the scriptures are full of gratitude and thanks to the Lord. That is something I have not realized before. Here is one of my favorite scriptures about gratitude: DyC 59:7-8. To give thanks to the Lord is a commandment. We can show our gratitude through righteousness and having a broken heart and a contrite spirit.

Well I love you all! Thanks for all of your love, support, and prayers. It is felt. Have a fantastic week!

Con amor, Hermana Burr

D&C 59:7-8
7 Thou shalt thank the Lord thy God in all things.
8 Thou shalt offer a sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in righteousness, even that of a broken heart and a contrite spirit.
